September 12, 2018 in Minsk, the International Conference "The Role of PPP Projects in Achieving the Goals of Sustainable Development and Human Wellbeing" was organized by the National Agency of Investment and Privatization jointly with the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the World Bank, Belarusbank and the Industrial Park Development Company.

Heads of government bodies, international financial institutions, banks, business representatives, public organizations and associations, the scientific and academic community attended the event.

Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic, Marianna Shchetkina opened the conference with her presentation on "The objectives of sustainable development in the Republic of Belarus: main tasks and indicators".

Minister of Economy of the Republic of Belarus Dmitry Krutoy in his report "Infrastructure development is the source of economic growth and improvement of the living standards of the population" highlighted the significance of PPP as an important tool for attracting private investment in infrastructure and noted the increased interest of national and international investors in projects, which are planned to be implemented on the principles of PPP.

International experts made presentations on the strategic development of PPP projects, the world's best practices in achieving the goals of sustainable development, including through the implementation of PPP projects. Separately, a number of problems related to the difficulties and obstacles that arise in the implementation of projects on the PPP principles and possible solutions to them have been noted and actively discussed.

Within the framework of the panel discussions, the participants discussed the issues of attracting private investments into the infrastructure of the countries following the One-Belt, One Road initiative, the development of the Great Stone Industrial Park in Belarus, the international experience in developing PPPs in the regions and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, the role of PPP centers as one of the key players in the development of national infrastructure, as well as the role and place of international development institutions and the banking sector in the implementation of PPP projects referring to the existing realities in the Republic of Belarus.
