September 28-30, 2015 regional training course on international investment agreements “Reforming the international investment regime” will be hosted in Minsk International Educational Centre named after Johannes Rau (11 Gazety Pravada Street), organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

UNCTAD’s report on World Investment – 2015 will open the meeting. The investment climate and the distinctive features of investment projects in Belarus will be presented during the workshop. The participants will also discuss recent trends in foreign direct investment, an investor-State dispute settlement in the world and in transition economies, reforming international investment governance and other urgent issues.

Almost 40 representatives from 18 countries with economies in transition have been invited to the meeting. Highly qualified international experts, including representatives of American University of Central Asia, Columbia Center on Sustainable Development, Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, King & Spalding LLP, King & Wood Mallesons LLP will share their experience with the Belarusian side.

The Belarusian side is represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, National Agency of Investment and Privatization, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Communications and Informatization, the National Bank, the Ministry of Transport and Communications, the Ministry of Energy, Minsk city executive committee, regional executive committees, as well as representatives of Belarusian State Economic University and Belarus State University actively engaged in the study of issues related to foreign investment.

UNCTAD’s work program on international investment agreements actively assists recipient countries on the organization of effective management of foreign investment. The objectives are to deepen the understanding of agreements on foreign investment, to identify and examine issues, challenges and options and ensure that sustainable development concerns are adequately addressed. 

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Belarus and National Agency of Investment and Privatization.
